Reading the Bible today, I kept coming back to one verse. (Philippians 8) "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” I thought what an awesome passage!
Sometimes when we read the bible, we just read it and don’t stop and think about the passage. Can I share a few of my thoughts with you?
"Whatsoever things are true." Truth is God (John 14:6) the Bible is truth (John 1:1).Think on the word. You can't think on the word unless you’re reading the word.
"Whatsoever things are honest." Honesty is not the only policy, but it is the only righteous policy. Satan has a policy; which is Dishonesty. Some people are not honest. Many types of music are not honest. Godly music is honest! So why not think on honest things.
"Whatsoever things are just." There are not a lot of just or right things in the world. But you can be prayerful and The Lord can create a just spirit in you (1 Corinthians 6:11).
"Whatsoever things are pure." There is a lot of garbage going into our kid's today. Television, violence, hate and so on. Our kids can't think on pure thing when they don’t see it, read it or hear it!
"Whatsoever things are lovely." Jesus is lovely (1 John 4:8)! He step down from His Righteous Perfect and Justified throne. And wrapped his righteous sanctified spirit in our filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) to be beaten, bloodied and mocked for you and me. There can be no greater love, than that.
"Whatsoever things are of a good report." negativity is running ramped in Church’s and world. Ask your brother or sister at church or in the world. (Hey Bro. how you doing? There reply, Oh man bobs making me work next Sunday). Why do we automatically look at the negative in people? Why not say (Bobs paying double time to work next Sunday).
Since we already understand The Word is truth, The Word tells us in Proverbs 23:7,27:19 we are the same as our hearts.
