Easter Events 2012

Spring Revival. 7:30 p.m. nightly April 4-6, Mount Hebron Baptist Church, 123-125 Rip Rap Road. Guest speakers include Hampton clergy: Pastor Constance Hill, House of the Word Ministries; Pastor Jerry L. Neaves, Living Word Church Ministries; and Pastor Anderson W. Clary Jr., Queen Street Baptist Church.

Maundy Thursday. 6:30 p.m. April 5, Bethany United Methodist Church, 1509 Todds Lane. Communion will be served. The choir will sing "O Man of Sorrow." Everett Street, soloist, will sing "Via Dolorosa." Information: 826-2493.

Good Friday Service, Seven Last Words of Christ. 7 p.m. April 6, Ebenezer Baptist Church, 171 Semple Farm Road. Information: 865-1480.

Good Friday Service. 7 p.m. April 6, Langley Baptist Church, 116 E. Little Back River Road. Information 723-1280

Tenebrae Service. 6:30 p.m. April 6, Restoration Church, 508 Fox Hill Road. Tenebrae is Latin for shadows. The purpose of this service is to recreate the betrayal, abandonment and agony of the passion of Jesus, and to re-emphasize what put Him on the cross. Participants will leave that evening with the scene unfinished, because the story isn't over until Easter Sunday.

Downtown Hampton Churches Annual Walk with the Cross. 5 p.m. April 6, First Baptist Church, 229 N. King St. This is an account of Jesus' torture and crucifixion accompanied with prayers and singing of hymns at 10 stations. The walk begins at First Baptist Church and ends at St. John's Church, 100 W. Queens Way. Dinner will be provided at Queen Street Baptist Church, 190 W. Queens Way. A donation of a nonperishable food items is requested, and can be brought to First Baptist Church. Information: 722-2567 or email office@stjohnshampton.org.

Easter by-the-Bay E-G-G-stravaganza. Noon-3 p.m. April 7, Strawberry Banks (inclement weather location is Hampton University Convocation Center). Free and open to children 10 and under. There will be an Easter egg hunt, the Easter Bunny, face painting, balloon artists, games and giant inflatable slides. Food vendors, a deejay and free prizes will also be at the event. Great Easter Food Giveaway. Following the 11 a.m Easter Sunday service April 8, Bethel Church. As part of the church's outreach ministry, volunteers will distribute over four tons of canned and dry goods to needy families in the community. Information: 826-1426.

Easter Sunrise Service. 7 a.m. April 8, corner of Water Street and Melon Street (next to Mill Creek). Phoebus United Methodist Church and Open Door Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship are coming together for Easter sunrise service. Everyone is invited for coffee and fellowship at 300 E. Resurrection Sunday. 10 a.m. April 8, Ebenezer Baptist Church, 171 Semple Farm Road. A musical/dramatic Cantata, "For Such A One As This." Information: 865-1480.

Chapel of the Centurion Easter Sunrise Service. 6:30 a.m. April 8, Continental Park, Fort Monroe. The Chapel of the Centurion will continue the tradition of Easter Sunrise Service overlooking the Chesapeake Bay at Fort Monroe. The service begins a at Continental Park, across the street from the Chamberlin Hotel. Pastor Lucious Morton and Father Ron Spangenberg of the Chapel will officiate. Chairs are limited this year, so those attending may need to bring their own folding chair.

Open Door Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Resurrection Service. 9:30 a.m. April 8, 105 E. Cummings Ave. Featuring a Youth Ministry presentation titled, "A New Look." Information: 727-0205.

Easter Sunday. 10 a.m. April 8, Bethany United Methodist Church, 1509 Todds Lane. The choir will present "Christ Is Risen! Alleluia!" and close the service by singing the "Hallelujah Chorus." Information: 826-2493.
